Publications
Fahamu publications provide a unique source of policy analysis from
within Africa, written in an accessible style and from a variety of
viewpoints. They are an important part of our mission to publish news
and information and stimulate debate, discussion and analysis on human
rights and social justice in Africa by Africans.
Most of our books are drawn from articles originally published in our weekly electronic newsletter Pambazuka News. They are published in this format in order to reach an audience that finds it easier to access material on the printed page.
Fahamu produces a series of special reports, some of which are published in Pambazuka News, and some of which are made available as separate downloadable documents.
Fahamu also produces CDROMs for people wishing to develop their skills in particular areas useful
for not-for-profit organisations. They can be used by individuals
working on their own, with groups in a training workshop and as a
reference tool.
In September 2008, ministers from over 100 countries, heads of
bilateral and multilateral development agencies, donor organizations,

Accra for the Third High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness.
China’s global expansion is much talked about, but usually from the
viewpoint of the West. This unique collection of essays, written by
scholars and activists from China and the global South, provides
diverse views on the challenges faced by Africa, Latin America and Asia
as a result of China’s rise as a significant global economic power.
Chinese aid, trade and investments – driven by the needs of its own
economy – present both threats and opportunities for the South,
requiring a nuanced analysis that goes beyond simplistic caricatures of
‘good’ and ‘evil’.
Proposals that make a difference was developed to help not-for-profit organisations to write effective grant proposals.
Do you find writing a chore? Do you spend hours looking at a blank sheet of paper, wondering how to start? - Then Writing for change can help.
Food Rebellions! takes a deep look at the world food crisis and its
impact on the Global South and underserved communities in the
industrial north. While most governments and multilateral organizations
offer short-term solutions based on proximate causes, authors Eric
Holt-Giménez and Raj Patel unpack the planet’s environmentally and
economically vulnerable food systems to reveal the root causes of the
crisis. By tracking the political and economic evolution of the
industrial agri-foods complex, Food Rebellions! shows us how the steady
erosion of local and national control over their food systems has made
African nations dependent on a volatile global market and subject to
the short-term interests of a handful of transnational agri-food
monopolies.
