I was loaned a copy of your CDROM entitled 'Proposals that make a Difference', and have been immensely impressed with the user friendly, easy-to-understand way in which it is compiled. As the programme manager for the Fellowship and Networking aspect of Ashoka in Southern Africa, I am in regular contact with over 60 Ashoka fellows in Southern Africa. I do believe that this CDROM would be of huge benefit to a number of our fellows, as they are always looking for resource mobilisation input and 'helps'. This CDROM provides a very good basic knowledge of how to write a standard proposal. Also, a number of leading social entrepreneurs elected into the Ashoka fellows, whilst being real innovators and leaders in their communities/field, have never had the benefit of standard training in a skill such as basic proposal writing. Proposals that make a difference was developed to help not-for-profit organisations to write effective grant proposals.

Drawing on some 20 years of experience of working on 'both sides of the begging bowl' (as grantmaker and grant applicant) the author reveals the art of writing proposals, whatever the format that is required by the funding agency.

Topics covered include: defining objectives, researching and getting to know the donor; making an effective case of funding using the 'POOP' formula (present, opportunities, options and proposition); how to prepare a logical framework analysis (LFA); preparing budgets; how to follow up with the donor.
