ABOUT THE PROJECT

The  Food Justice Project is implemented in collaboration with smallholder farmers across Kenyan communities. The project constitutes of technical and political education on food and other related social injustices.
The project addresses various gaps affecting smallholder farmers and seeks to enhance information access, provide workable community based solutions, improve the levels of analysis and enhance  working together as collectives among   farming communities.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE

Fahamu’s Food Justice Project is an initiative that seeks to build a movement of smallholder farmers   capable of addressing different forms of oppression including food inequality within communities.
The project implementation areas are with farming networks including Machakos District Small Scale Farmers Association and Central Organic Farmers and Consumers Organisation (COFCO) in Eastern and Central Kenya respectively.
Through the project, farmers get to understand the production process , enhance community knowledge depository on agricultural production and exchange best practices based on experiential learning.

PROJECT CONSTITUENCY AND PARTNERS:

Fahamu is implementing the project with peasant farmer’s networks.

  • Alliances built and solidarity strengthened amongst grassroots communities for sustained dialogues on the unequal food system and other related injustices
  • Disciplined and coordinated political strategy that builds a movement capable of influencing power
  • A politically conscious community able to interrogate food related injustices
  • Linkages developed on peasant farmers issues from grassroots to national, regional and global levels
  • Improved knowledge base within communities informed by community-based learning
