Right? Fine, write down all you want. Get it out of your system. Then put it away. It's not what you will need for this publication.

Let us repeat: your aim is to present enough, and only enough, information to justify your main message, your main conclusion.

  • Anything more than that will distract your reader.
  • Anything less than that will detract from your message.

The key to being a good scientist is to demonstrate your ability to discriminate between what is and what is not relevant. The same goes for writing good science.

This is not bias or manipulation. It doesn't mean selecting only those data that suit your prejudices. Integrity is essential for good science.

But you only have space for what is essential to support your conclusions. Use that space well.
