WHAT TO PUBLISH
We can broadly divide publications into two types:
-
Papers whose main purpose is develop ideas or theories. This type also includes 'review papers' where the existing literature is re-examined from a fresh (or different) perspective.
Although such papers may include empirical data, their main purpose is to develop ideas or theories.
-
Papers whose main purpose is to report on empirical findings from original research or experiments. There is a tradition for such papers to be written in a stylised form and to have a pre-ordained structure. The writer has
much less freedom to decide how to present the main message.
Which of these two types of papers are you thinking of publishing?
