If you send your manuscript to the 'wrong' journal, your paper could be:

  • rejected out of hand as being inappropriate;
  • reviewed and, some months later, rejected as not appropriate;
  • unfairly or negatively reviewed owing to the lack of expertise of the editors and referees in the specific discipline;
  • published, but without the benefit of competent referees to help you correct important errors that you have made;
  • published and never read (or referred to) by those who should know about your findings because they would not think to look in such a journal.

You need to choose carefully. But which is the 'right' journal?
