Graphs

Use a graph to show how variables relate to each other. Here are some basic rules for preparing graphs.

  • Avoid using graphs if the data you are presenting are sparse or monotonously repetitive.
  • If there is only one line or curve, consider whether it would be better to describe it in words rather than as a graph.
  • If the precise values are important, then use a table instead of a graph.
  • Use graphs that illustrate your message in an interesting way. If it doesn't look interesting, don't use a graph.
